Green Algae

Me, oh my, what should I do? Try this:

1) Vacuum, preferably to "waste" (see troubleshooting) if you can see the bottom. If not, brush the walls.

2) Shock heavily with at least two to three times the normal amount of Shock Treatment for your pool, preferably a non-stabilized shock (see Shock Treatments), and add Algaecide. You will not over shock the pool.

3) Let the filter RUN for 24 to 48 hours if you can.

4) Backwash as necessary.

5) Vacuum, preferably to "waste", if algae is on the bottom. If not, try letting it settle for 12 hours. If you are unable to see the bottom, please consult one of our water chemistry experts at 978-688-8307 ext. 16 or drop in with a water sample.

Always manually vacuum, on the waste position or with your drain valve 20% open if possible. Do not use automatic vacuum cleaners with algae. They stir it up.

6) Backwash filter or clean with a filter cleaner once the pool is clean to rid the filter of algae.
